This table describes several environment variables[1][2] that affects how Machines works. Each variable is independent and case insensitive. Variables can be set either in user or system enviroment.

Variable Possible value Effect Example
cb_debug_env present or nonpresent If set, enable debug information displayed in game window. cb_debug_env=1
cb_novmail present or nonpresent If set, disable voice briefings. cv_novmail=1
cb_sound_off present or nonpresent If set, disable sound effects. cb_sound_off=1
cb_no_ai_ally present or nonpresent If set, disable computer players alliances. cb_no_ai_ally=1
cb_showallscenarios present or nonpresent If set, enable all missions in campaign. cb_showallscenarios=1
cb_record_to path and file name If set, record gameplay to file. Created file can be played back by passing to cb_playback_from. cv_record_to=\game.rec
cb_playback_from path and file name If set, playback recorded game from file. cb_playback_from=\game.rec
